Hello, Aloha and Howdy!
Welcome to the first official Calvin & Susie blog of 2013! Cheers!
Now if you live in the world and either A) interact with humans and/or B) subscribe to some form of social network, you have probably noticed the plethora of Resolutions being bandied about. Some of my favorites that I’ve seen on Facebook include:
“I’m going to learn french!”
“I’m going to be unrelentingly positive!”
“No more paper cups and plastic bottles!”
“I’m going to lose weight!”
“I’m giving up caffeine in all forms!” <— INSANE
In perusing these Resolutions, I started thinking about Brandy the Cat. What can I do better for her this year? And perhaps the larger question, what can WE as devoted pet owners do better for ALL of our pets this year?
I don’t think this has to be some grand, momentous thing. The simplicity and dedication of the everyday is what makes Resolutions stick. So I’ve compiled here 5 Resolutions for Your Pet in 2013 that can perhaps make their life, and thus, your life, a little bit better.
5 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Happy and Healthy Pet
1. Exercise your pet.
Whether it’s playing with string, going for a walk or encouraging a hop or fly around the house, committing to some daily activity with your pet will aid in weight control and the general happiness of your pet. Plus it’s great to devote part of your day to some quality pet-human bonding time
2. Upgrade your pet’s diet
Whether it’s committing to reading and heeding labels, refusing to buy food with meat of questionable origin, looking into supplementing with fish oils or simply buying your pet higher quality treats i.e. cutting out the “junk food”- any change big or small can make a difference in your pet’s health and quality of life.
3. Keep your pet up to date on vet visits
This is right up there with going to the dentist regularly for people. It’s hard to keep up, but if you keep your pet up to date on their shots and vet check ups, chances are you will catch anything serious early and your pet will live a healthier longer life. This includes visiting your vet if your furry friends exhibit any odd or alarming behavior. Don’t put it off!
4. Pet Proof Your House
But, Calvin & Susie Blogger, I’ve had pets my whole life! Of course my house is pet safe! This is probably mostly true, but now is the time to double check for potential poisons lurking in your house in the form of pest killers, plants, electrical wires, detergents and cleaners. If your pet can lick it, walk on it or chew it, make sure it’s safe!
5. Cleanliness is next to…
Whether it’s brushing, bathing, nail clipping or teeth brushing, make your pet’s hygiene a priority. After all, isn’t it more fun to snuggle up with a clean, sweet smelling pup?
There you have it. Nothing too hard, no? And the way I see it, if you can give even one of these
Resolutions a try, you and your pet may be happier for it.
Have a wonderful new year! From all of us at Calvin & Susie!
